Little Green Dragon, Winchmore Hill, London N21

Happy new year from all at RGL! I hope your 2019s have all been good so far.

Kicking off the featured articles for the year we have a friendly micropub in Winchmore Hill: the Little Green Dragon has plenty of real ale, real cider and real pickled eggs. It comes well recommended by our reviewer, so worth a visit if you're up that end of Green Lanes.

There's a new article for Nick's Cafe bang in the middle of Bromley Mall, a good lunch option that does Turkish breakfasts, and cheese that 'actually tasted of something'.

I'm sad to hear that Kris Wines in Kentish Town has shut for good - it was a great little spot for acquiring unusual beers. The Big Green Bookshop in Wood Green is also closing its premises, as the business is moving to online-only. That worked out well for Mr J. Bezos in the 90s, so fingers crossed for them.

Bumblebee Natural Foods, Holloway, London N7

Hello again. This week's featured article is Bumblebee Natural Foods, N7 0BT on the Kentish Town borders, a health food shop and grocery, with bulk foods, takeaway food, fruit and veg, baked goods, cheese and other such things.

The one new article is for a branch of Mexican food chain Wahaca at Westfield Stratford City's glamorous E20. If you've been to any of them, you'll be familiar with the concept. Our correspondent particularly recommends the plantain tacos.

Reported closures are for The Fat of the Land, an uneasy tapas bar/pub hybrid in Marylebone, and Parade Gastrobar in South Woodford, which sounds like some kind of painful dietary device. Also closed is Little Squiggles Cafe in sunny Sutton.

Afternoon all! I hope you had a good long weekend.

This week's featured article is for Zoilo, a smashing Argentinian restaurant in Marylebone near the Wallace Collection. The wine list is interesting and the empanadas are excellent - if you're going for lunch, make sure you don't have to go back to work afterwards.

Your contributors have been busy this week: we've got new articles for Franco Manca, a branch of the sourdough pizza chain in Westfield Stratford City; the new-ish Baker Street branch of the Natural Kitchen, which has plenty of unhealthy options to choose from; Bumblebee Natural Foods (an independent grocers and bakery) and Kami (a Japanese restaurant), both in Kentish Town; and - long overdue for a write-up, considering how often I go there - the 24-hour Bagel House in Stoke Newington. I can recommend the £1 pizza slice as a satisfying late night snack.

Kika in Canonbury has closed and is now a cafe called The Fig Tree. Finally, although we don't have an article for it yet, it may be useful to know that the Phoenix bar in Cavendish Square (near Oxford Circus) is temporarily closed for refurbishment, reopening in early September 2014.

Hello RGLers! An evening update for you today.

This week's featured article is for Mi Rancho, N7 6AG, a Colombian restaurant in the Nags Head Market in Holloway. It's not clear whether there's a menu, but if you can speak Spanish there's no need for one! Try the (meaty) beans: "Quiero algo delicioso, por favor" should do it.

There's a new article for Slurp, an Asian restaurant in Streatham. It has nothing to do with the wine website of the same name, as far as I can tell. They serve Japanese, Chinese and Thai food, which is good news for soba noodle fans like myself.

The Eel Pie and Prince Blucher pubs (both in Twickenham) have closed for a refurb. I hope they get all competitive and try to out-do each other with fancy curtains and brass knobs.

Tube news! The Northern and Bakerloo lines aren't stopping at Embankment tube station for most of this year, while they sort out the escalators. You're better off getting off at Charing Cross.

Unpackaged in Hackney has closed, hopefully to reopen somewhere else. Also, a reminder that Pieds Nus in Marylebone is closing as planned at the end of March, but will hopefully be moving to a brand new home.

Finally, the Workman's Cafe in Clapton has been renamed to the E5 Cafe, but otherwise it's business as usual on Chatsworth Road.

Hello! And sorry for the slight delay posting this update; all my fault.

This week's featured article is Addis, N1 9DT. It's an Ethiopian restaurant at the bottom of Caledonian Road, with plenty of options for veggies and vegans. Looks like everything was excellent, though you might want to think carefully about ordering falafel.

There are three new entries: a Turkish bakery and cafe called Tuana near Archway; Mi Rancho, a Colombian eatery in Nag's Head Market, Holloway, offering tasty street food in an unpretentious setting; and Black Cat Cafe, a vegan cooperative cafe in Lower Clapton.

Reported permanent closures are La Fermata on Tower Bridge Road, and Verru in Marylebone.

Finally, happier news, the old Duke of Edinburgh pub in Wanstead has been rebranded as The Duke and reopened. Looks promising.

This week's featured article is Woo Jung, WC2H 8LH, a Korean restaurant near Centre Point in that tricky little area between WC1 and WC2 that I usually call St Giles, some developers call Mid Town, but for convenience we'll just call Covent Garden. There's a little stretch of Korean places along here, so you can come here if you can't get into the others.

New articles are: Cafe Kozzy, a greasy spoon in Holborn; and Tufnell Park Tavern. Sure, it's a tavern and it's in Tufnell Park, but it's more than averagely child-friendly. On the downside, it's a bit big and airy in there, and they don't know how to pull a pint, but at least they have real ale.

Reported closures are Favela Chic, a Brazilian bar in Shoreditch which turned into another Brazilian bar a year or two back; and The Oporto, a pub by Westferry station in Poplar which is now called The Westferry Arms and may be much the same, though we haven't been since the change of name.

Somers Town Coffee House, Somers Town, NW1

This week's featured article is the Somers Town Coffee House, NW1 1HS, which despite its name is a gastropub near Euston station. It's been refurbished since it was a French-themed pub.

There are four additions this week: The Clapton Hart pub in Lower Clapton, another fine Antic outpost; Shane's on Chatsworth, a restaurant not too far away; The North Pole, a self-described craft beer pub in Islington; and Tramlink Route 4, a new tram route on the Tramlink in south London using some extra double-tracking (but no new stations).

There's been an update to the stub entry for The Lord Palmerston, a Geronimo Inns gastropub in Dartmouth Park.

Five permanent closures have been reported: Ping Pong's branch on Goodge Street; the Texas Embassy Cantina by Trafalgar Square; Melati, a Malaysian restaurant in Soho; The Compass, a gastropub in Pentonville, at the end of Chapel Market (reopening as another gastropub called Hundred Crows Rising); and Langton's Bookshop in Twickenham.

Finally, confirmation that Morgan M has fully moved from its site in Holloway to Smithfield.

This week's featured article is Kris Wines, N7 9LW, an off licence at the top of York Way, about halfway between Kentish Town Station and Caledonian Road Station.

Despite its name (and they do stock wines), Kris Wines very much specialises in beers, which come from all over Britain and around the world. ewan describes it as "excellent", high praise indeed.

Recent additions to RGL include City Caphe, a Vietnamese cafe on Ironmonger Lane near St Paul's; the Orchard, a vegan-friendly bar in Brockley; and the Ravensbourne Arms, a new Antic pub at the Ladywell end of Lewisham.

Recent additions to RGL include Teapod, a tea shop in Covent Garden; Kris Wines, an off licence in Camden Town; and Dial Arch, a gastropub in Woolwich.

One reported closure: Stone Horse Paper Cow near Liverpool Street.

This week's featured article is Angel, SE16 4NB, a Samuel Smith's pub on the river, on the border of Bermondsey/Rotherhithe.

Were it not that they don't serve real ale, this would be a fantastic pub; as it is, it is merely a very good one. The upstairs lounge has a great view over the river, and the downstairs is divided into small, characterful areas. Service has always been friendly on our visits.

Recent additions to RGL include Sorabol in New Malden and Ping Pong in St Paul's. We've also updated our writeup of the Queen's Head in King's Cross.

Reported closures are Marie Lloyd Bar in Hackney (now a cafe), Dastarkhan in Lower Holloway (now a different central Asian restaurant), East & West Chinese Supermarket in New Cross, Harem on Brick Lane (now a different Turkish restaurant), and Thai Tiger also on Brick Lane (now an Indian restaurant).

Also, several branches of Oddbins have closed, including the Bromley branch — we're not sure which others have closed and which remain open, so do let us know if you have any up-to-date information.

In more cheerful news, the Rifleman in Twickenham has reopened.
