Wine Gallery, Purley, London CR8
Good evening RGL readers! Or should I say good e-vin-ing, as this week's featured article is for the Wine Gallery in Purley. Look out for some 'vine art' on the walls and 'corkingly' good tapas, in 'oeno-rous' portions. Sincere apologies for the low quality of these puns, it's been a long day. Perhaps I need a glass of pun-ot noir?

There are updates for a couple of Young's pubs, the Wheatsheaf in Borough Market and the Windmill on the Common in Clapham. Chai Naasto in Beckenham has also had an update, it sounds like a decent local option for Indian street food with friendly service.

Peruvian restaurant Tito's has moved from its old home near London Bridge station to Stockwell, though if you're still in the mood for spicy prawns there is now a different Peruvian restaurant on the premises. Over in Twickenham, the Rifleman has had more reimaginings than Madonna over the last few years; it's reopened once more under new management.

Finally, two closures to report: Brasserie Vacherin in Croydon, and the PlumTree Cafe in Greenwich.

Olympic Studios, Barnes, SW13

Welcome back! This week's featured article is boutique cinema Olympic Studios in leafy Barnes. It's quite pricy, and the snacks are all artisanal, but it's very comfortable in the Everyman Cinemas sort of way. There's also a cafe attached, but I didn't visit that.

We've got an update to Three Compasses pub in Hornsey, where Kake enjoyed a selection of brown bitters and the company of half a dozen people on a Friday afternoon.

Finally, the reported closure last month of Fino "tapas bar" in Fitzrovia. According to the news article announcing this, the owners believe London dining preferences have moved on to a more informal style of eating (i.e. like actual tapas bars).

Bumblebee Natural Foods, Holloway, London N7

Hello again. This week's featured article is Bumblebee Natural Foods, N7 0BT on the Kentish Town borders, a health food shop and grocery, with bulk foods, takeaway food, fruit and veg, baked goods, cheese and other such things.

The one new article is for a branch of Mexican food chain Wahaca at Westfield Stratford City's glamorous E20. If you've been to any of them, you'll be familiar with the concept. Our correspondent particularly recommends the plantain tacos.

Reported closures are for The Fat of the Land, an uneasy tapas bar/pub hybrid in Marylebone, and Parade Gastrobar in South Woodford, which sounds like some kind of painful dietary device. Also closed is Little Squiggles Cafe in sunny Sutton.

Holborn Whippet, Holborn, WC1

Morning RGL posse! We are fast approaching the end of a jam-packed 2012 -- a year in which I ate the tastiest mushroom I have so far encountered. In order to take stock of this momentous fungus and all the other awesome food and drink we've consumed over the last 12 months, the RGL blog will be taking a short break until the new year.

Until then, feast your eyes upon this week's featured article, the Holborn Whippet, a 'craft' (i.e. 'half-decent') beer joint in -- brace yourselves -- Holborn, just at the top of Sicilian Avenue. It's run by the same dudes as the Euston Tap and has several gravity taps for dispensing tasty cask ale. It can get pretty busy and noisy in there but I can confirm that the beer is great.

New to RGL are Caprice, a Balkan/Mediterranean restaurant in Croydon that shows intriguing Bulgarian soap operas on the telly (with the sound down), and Cigala, a tapas place on Lamb's Conduit Street with disappointing chorizo. I don't know about you but the thought of chorizo being non-tasty makes me very sad.

Clanging chimes of doom watch: the Chesham Arms pub in Hackney is sadly shut, as is Tuli in London Bridge (to the dismay of some RGLers attempting to have lunch there). Cantina in Holborn is now 100% confirmed as closed too, but Unpackaged has now reopened in Haggerston for all your hippy grocery needs.

See you in 2013!

Welcome back to another week with RGL

Crate, Hackney Wick, E9

This week's featured article is Crate, E9 5EN, a microbrewery and pizzeria alongside the River Lea or Lee canal, in increasingly-trendy post-industrial Hackney Wick. The pizzas are good and the beer is decent. It was good over summer when you could sit outside on the banks of the Lea.

There are two new articles this week. The first is for a refurbished gastropub in Kentish Town, The Grafton, well worth a visit if you're in the area, though it doesn't quite match the extensive ale selection of nearby Tapping the Admiral. The other new entry is for chain restaurant Giraffe in Kensington, a chain known for being particularly child-friendly.

Finally, our reported closure is Dos Tias tapas restaurant in Deptford, which I think probably closed a few years ago, but nevertheless now confirmed.

The Bookworm, Carshalton, London SM5

Greetings, RGL crew.

This week's featured article is The Bookworm, SM5 2PT, a secondhand bookshop in Carshalton. As far as we can tell it's not one of those bookshops that isn't there when you go back and try and find it again, only to be told by a retired one-eyed sea captain that there Ain't Been A Bookshop Here For Forty Year. Indeed, The Bookworm firmly resides in the correct universe at all times.

New additions to RGL this week include two large pubs Out East (the County Arms in Highams Park and the Larkshall in Chingford); Black Pig With White Pearls, a new tapas place in Stoke Newington and Tsuru, a Japanese restaurant on Bishopsgate with a possible penchant for the music of Will Young.

Closures include the Lock Dining Bar in Tottenham Hale, Joshua's Tea Room (the cafe in Allders in Croydon, which itself has sadly now sold its last cardigan), Shanghai Village in Twickenham and the Lemon Monkey cafe in Stoke Newington. We are also sad to report the closure of Lovely Beer Haven Mason & Taylor in Shoreditch, which will shortly be replaced by a new craft beer bar run by the chaps at Brewdog.

Fat of the Land, Marylebone, London

This week's featured article is Fat of the Land, W1G 9TR, a tapas bar in Marylebone, converted from an old Sam Smith's pub. It's been stripped out and made to look all fresh and shiny and new, and though it has a couple of taps for draught beer, it's not really a pub in any way anymore. The food is decent though.

One permanent closure is Palms of Goa, an Indian restaurant in Soho. As you will recall, there was some confusion about this a week or two ago. Well, I visited and it definitely has become a branch of Honest, the burger shop which started in Brixton Village. Lovely burgers, and not too busy for Soho given the quiet location.

A temporary closure (possibly, for refurbishment) is La Trompette, Michelin-starred fine dining in Chiswick.

However, reopening is The Great Harry, a Wetherspoon's pub in Woolwich. It was dramatically burnt out in the riots last August, but has now been refurbished and reopened again to the public.

Mason and Taylor, Shoreditch, E1

This week's featured article is Mason & Taylor, E1 6LA, a Shoreditch bar but one with a greater emphasis on quality ales and keg beers (including plenty of bottles).

There is one new article, Fat of the Land, a tapas bar in Marylebone.

Three significant updates are: The Old Red Lion, an Antic pub in Kennington; The Prince of Wales, a Good Beer Guide pub in Cheam; and The Harrow, another pub in Cheam.

One reported closure is Market Coffee House in Spitalfields (now a restaurant, though run by the same people).

Tapas Brindisa, Borough, SE1

This week's featured article is Tapas Brindisa, SE1 1TJ, a high turnover tapas place by the corner of Borough Market, near London Bridge station. Even on a Saturday, you should be able to get a table without too long a wait, and the food is still decent after all these years.

New articles are: Pratts and Payne, an Antic pub in Streatham replacing a Goose pub; and a short one about The Globe, a fairly unmemorable pub opposite Baker Street station.

Reported closures are: The Masons' Arms in Walworth; and The Plough Inn, another victim of Young's sell-off of their pub estate (and heritage). It's a rather attractive building, so a sad loss.

All about cookery

The featured article this week has been selected to be appropriate for your seasonal gift-giving needs. It is Category Bookshops. There are still many lovely independent bookshops in London.

Three new additions to RGL are: Pollen Street Social, fine dining in Mayfair; Meatliquor, greasy burger dining in Marylebone; and Crystal China, Chinese dining on Tower Bridge Road.

There's also been an update to the write-up for Galicia, a Croydon tapas bar.

This week's featured article is Lola Rojo, SW11 6QL, a tapas restaurant on Northcote Road in Battersea offering modern takes on traditional Spanish tapas.

(Accessibility: Two steps up to get in. Can't remember if there are more steps inside. Some of the seating is on high stools.)

Recent additions to RGL include Tea Palace in Covent Garden, Gerrard's Corner in Chinatown, Byron at the Intrepid Fox in Soho, and Villandry on Great Portland Street. We've also got a few updates on Pacific Plaza (still no supermarket, sadly).

Two reported closures: Green and Red in Shoreditch and the Market Place Cafe near Oxford Street. One reopening: Lina Stores in Soho.
