Handpumps at the Cotton Mill, Swanley, BR8
Evening folks! It's that time of year again when we investigate pubs in the new edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, leading to a whole barrelful of new pub entries on RGL:

The Cotton Mill, Swanley
The Dartford Jug, Dartford
The Black Dog Beer House, Brentford
The Black Lion, Surbiton
The Tap Tavern, Richmond
The Nonsuch Inn, North Cheam (Wetherspoons)
The Earl Beatty, Motspur Park
The Jolly Gardeners, Earlsfield
The Sir Julian Huxley, Selsdon
The Real Ale Way, Hayes (the Kent Hayes, not the Middlesex Hayes)
The Portland Arms, South Norwood
Suttons Radio, Lewisham
The Morden Arms, Greenwich
The River Ale House, Greenwich
The Rusty Bucket, Eltham
The Libertine, Borough
Draft House Camden Road, Camden
St John's Tavern, Archway
The Golden Fleece, Manor Park
The Coach And Horses, Leyton
The Miller's Well, East Ham (Wetherspoons)
Craft Beer Co., Aldgate

In non-GBG news, there's a new page for the Daily Petit Dejeuner cafe (good bus watching opportunities) and an update for Communitea, both in South Norwood. The Hornbeam Cafe in Walthamstow has had an update, as has the White Hart in Hampton Wick. Finally, the Kings Arms in East Molesey has reopened after a refurb - we've been along to try their breakfast jigsaw.

Polish Kitchen, Cheshunt, EN8

Evening RGLers! This week's featured article is for Polish Kitchen, a cosy restaurant in Cheshunt where the pierogi made a good impression on our reviewer. The zapiekanki sounds like a popular local choice too.

What's happening in sunny Cheam, I hear you ask? Well, our team has been to the Pepper Pot sandwich shop and deli, and there's a new article as a result. Expect their fridges to feature on a German electronica compilation near you soon. Hashtag Cheam!

Living room news: the Geffrye Museum on Kingsland Road has shut for a refurb, so your only view of it until 2020 will be from above (on the platform at Hoxton station). The Sir Richard Steele in Belsize Park is also undergoing a redevelopment, while The Oxford opposite Kentish Town station has been sold and has plans for redevelopment too.

Lastly, lovers of boshing techno will be sad but not surprised to hear that Elephant & Castle landmark The Coronet has finally closed.

Saravanaa Bhavan, Ilford, London IG1

Welcome back, belatedly!

This week's featured article is Saravanaa Bhavan, IG1 4PU in sunny Ilford. It's part of an international vegetarian Indian chain, and maybe you've been to one of the other London branches in East Ham or Tooting? Ganesha will watch peacefully over your dosa eating if you visit this spacious branch.

Other additions are a shabby pub/restaurant in Worcester Park/Cheam called The HG Wells, a Nigerian restaurant called Coal City in Edmonton (why not surprise the staff by visiting), and Chang's Noodle in London's fashionable Chinatown (excellent quality, and expect more than one noodle).

There's an update to The Gilpin's Bell in Edmonton, now under non-Wetherspoons ownership, but still offering Ruddles and similar cask beers.

Reported closures are Arbutus (always a bastion of unpretentious Michelin-starred fine dining) and The Windsor Castle in Marylebone (a bastion for the moustachioed gentleman).

Finally a couple of reopenings are The Fitzroy Tavern in Fitzrovia, and One and One Chinese buffet in Angel (now with meat, bucking the trend towards veganism).

Prince of Wales, Cheam, London SM3

This week's featured article is the Prince of Wales, SM3 8QF, a pleasant Good Beer Guide pub in Cheam. Dogs are welcome! Perhaps you have a dog, or like looking at other people's dogs? Then head to Cheam!

New to RGL are Yaki Noodle Bar, a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant close to Barking station, and 28-50 Wine Workshop and Kitchen, a wine bar and restaurant in Marylebone which is very good for impressing your parents.

Closures: Pudding Mill Lane DLR station is temporarily shut due to an exciting swimming competition* happening in Stratford. It should reopen in September, unlike the poor old Idle Hour in Hammersmith, which has permanently closed.

*Apparently some other sports might be happening too.

Mason and Taylor, Shoreditch, E1

This week's featured article is Mason & Taylor, E1 6LA, a Shoreditch bar but one with a greater emphasis on quality ales and keg beers (including plenty of bottles).

There is one new article, Fat of the Land, a tapas bar in Marylebone.

Three significant updates are: The Old Red Lion, an Antic pub in Kennington; The Prince of Wales, a Good Beer Guide pub in Cheam; and The Harrow, another pub in Cheam.

One reported closure is Market Coffee House in Spitalfields (now a restaurant, though run by the same people).

This week's featured article is Gourmet Garden, NW4 3AX, a rather good Malaysian restaurant in Hendon.

It does proper Singaporean, Malaysian, and Chinese-Malaysian food as well as a handful of things that would be familiar to those expecting the usual Anglicised Chinese food. Accessibility-wise, there's a small step up to get in and a few more shallow steps/ridges to get to the toilets.

Recent additions to RGL include Ye Olde Red Lion and Songkran, both in Cheam. One reported closure: the Evangelist near Blackfriars Station.

This week's featured article is Le Wei Xiang, SE13 5PT, a Chinese restaurant in Lewisham offering Sichuan and Dongbei (northeastern Chinese) specialties.

Its Chinese name is 樂味香 (lè wèi xiāng), and this is actually the only name on the frontage, though it also goes by the English names of "Le Wei Xiang" and the rather idiosyncratically-translated "Happy Smell".

The menu includes both the usual Anglicised Chinese restaurant items, and a separate section labelled "Genuine Chinese Tastes" with all the good stuff, including pork with mashed garlic, pig's blood soup, strange-flavour chicken, tiger salad, and so on.

Recent additions to RGL include African Kitchen on Drummond Street, Efe in Stoke Newington, Kazan near Victoria, and Harrow Inn in Cheam.

We've also updated a number of stub pages for other pubs in Cheam: the Prince Albert, the Railway, and the Claret Wine Bar.
