Handpumps at the Red Lion, Bromley, London BR1

Beer fans celebrate! All the new Good Beer Guide 2019 entries have been uploaded. There are 306 in total, so why not visit a local watering hole, or wander to a new 'hood to quench your thirst?

New articles include Lounge 101, an Indian restaurant and bar in Ruislip with some interesting ideas about service. If you're round Ruislip way and fancy a beer, there's Hop and Vine, a micropub which as expected is small, but happy to make room for canine friends. Finally, the West Norwood Library and Picturehouse in, you guessed it, West Norwood, opened its doors, though we've not visited yet.

Updates have been made to Somali Town Restaurant in Streatham. It serves up hefty portions of food, though with slightly carbonized anjero on this visit.

In closure news, Halcyon Books in Greenwich has permanently shut. Masaledar, an Indian restaurant twixt the Tootings Bec and Broadway is also shut, although we're uncertain if this is temporary or permanent.

Half Moon, Herne Hill, London SE24

Wotcher dudes :)

Our featured article is the Half Moon in Herne Hill. After a three and a half year closure due to flooding, it was reopened last March. The live music venue has gone and the pub now also acts as a hotel, bar and kitchen. Why not stop by for breakfast, though maybe skip the continental buffet.

A new article has gone up for Horn of Africa, twixt Brockley and New Cross. The menu on offer appears to vary on the day - who doesn't love a surprise?

Updates have been made to the Victoria Inn in Peckham. Expect a bit of work with your bacon roll here.

That's all for a fortnight as we explore old haunts in search of exciting and updated content :)

Magma, Thornton Heath, London CR7

This week's featured article is Magma, CR7 7ND. It's a small Ghanaian restaurant in Thornton Heath. Expect bright colours and probably not many people, but load up on carby goodness with tasty palaver sauce.

There are new entries for The Thatched House in Barking, a pub with Kenyan food; The Four Quarters, an 'arcade bar' in Peckham; and Chipstead Tandoori, which is surely self-explanatory, but it's an Indian in Chipstead, one of the few places to eat in this part of town, and even then probably missable.

We also have news of the reported closure of The Kennington Bookshop.

Finally, for those who have an interest in this sort of thing, Jeff 'Stonch' Bell has sold up The Finborough Arms and moved on to other things.

Welcome back after a wee break. The next update will be after Easter, so in a couple of weeks.

Les Delices de Tresor, New Cross, London SE14

This week's featured article is Les Delices de Tresor, SE14 6TJ. I know what you're thinking from the photo, you're thinking that's a pub! Well, it is a pub still, down the back, but this front bar is now given over to an Ivorian restaurant. It's a one person operation, so expect some flexibility in the opening hours, but it will serve some if not all of your fufu and stew needs.

New entries for Singer Tavern, a Barworks pub at the bottom of City Road, where it meets Finsbury Square: a big spacious place but with a good drinks range. Plus there's On the Hoof Bistro in sunny Sydenham, a friendly little cafe near the station which does excellent Sunday roasts. Finally, Orchard, a veggie cafe on Sicilian Avenue by Holborn, rocking the 70s wholefoods vibe.

There's an update to the Bloomsbury (or Bloomsbury Tavern, if you will), a Shepherd Neame pub which is located in... well, I'd call it St Giles or Holborn, but knock yourself out.

Finally, we regret to report the impending closure in June of Food for Thought, a classic veggie cafe in Covent Garden, basically the origin of that very 70s wholefoods vibe we detected at Orchard (although they do it much better at FfT), and a proper old timer on the scene.

Big update this week, mainly thanks to Oddbins. Anyway, here we go...

Tram Stop, Addiscombe, London CR0

Our featured article is Tram Stop, CR0 6RD, which is not in fact a tram stop but is right next to one (Addiscombe tram stop that is). It's a small coffee shop and cafe. It's child-friendly, and offers newspapers and bookswap books. The food is seasonal and good too!

Two new articles are: Magma, a small Ghanaian restaurant in Thornton Heath with a fine palaver sauce; and Gojo, doing Ethiopian food in a North Kensington basement, better than it sounds.

Four reported closures we've caught up with are: the Marylebone High St branch of Nicolas wine shop; the Barnes branch of Spirited Wines; Just Falafel in Covent Garden; and Japanese restaurant Kibou in sunny Wimbledon.

Those Oddbins renamings (generally from Spirited Wines or Nicolas) are:

* the Oddbins Beer Shop in Blackheath;
* the Notting Hill branch;
* the Wimbledon branch;
* the Kew branch;
* the Baker Street branch;
* the the Crouch End branch; and
* the East Dulwich branch.

It's a short update this week after last week's blizzard of closures, and my forgetfulness the previous week.

Bunga Raya, Thornton Heath, London CR7

The featured article is Bunga Raya, CR7 6AW. It's a Malaysian restaurant (and takeaway) in glamorous Thornton Heath. The food all sounds very nice from Kake's write-up, so you might want to venture an order if you live in their delivery area (or visit!).

We have one new article, which is Les Delices de Tresor, an Ivorian restaurant at the Deptford End of New Cross Rd, and confusingly located at the front part of a completely separate pub. It's a small space with somewhat variable opening hours.

Finally, a note on the closure in 2014 of The Corrib Bar in Camberwell.

Bongo East, Barking, London IG11

Welcome back, and for this week's update your featured article is the wonderfully named Bongo East, IG11 8RW. It's an unflashy Ghanaian bar and restaurant in Barking, with a nice line in spicy fufu and a tempting kelewele. Seems like it might need a few more customers, so why not pop in next time you visit Barking?

My colleague Kat has added an article about Back on Track Coffee in Marylebone which is a coffee shop with a model train twist and a punning name to match. We also have a Chinese restaurant in Bloomsbury, China City, but you might be better off avoiding it for dimsum.

I've also added a bunch of pubs: The Hack and Hop, near Blackfriars; The Draft House on Goodge Street (or "Draft House Charlotte" as the website calls it); and Mother Kelly's "tap room and bottle shop" in Bethnal Green. All three do great beers, in slightly different ways.

There's an update to Hampstead Heath Station (it's accessible!), and a temporary closure at The Half Moon in Herne Hill. Closed more permanently is The Prince of Wales in Battersea, which I certainly have memories of. Finally, a possible closure is Manus Palm Grove in Stratford, pending further information, but it hasn't been open for a while it seems.

Akwaah's Kitchen, Tottenham, London N17

This week's featured article is Akwaah's Kitchen, N17 8NS, a small African restaurant in Tottenham with a focus on Ghanaian food in particular and serving up some excellent kenkey (read the review if you don't know what that is!).

There are five new articles. We have Sawadika, a Thai restaurant in Holborn; Peckish Cafe and sandwich bar in Sutton; Japanese Canteen, part of a chain near Liverpool Street station; Itsu, another chain restaurant in the same part of town; and The Imperial Arms, a pub in Chislehurst.

Note that The Duke of Edinburgh in Wanstead has temporarily closed (so go to the nearby Nightingale).

Finally, The Elm Park near the tube station of the same name (at the edge of Hornchurch) has permanently closed.

Yi-Ban, London Regatta Centre, Royal Docks, London E16

Afternoon, RGL Crew!

This week's featured article is for Yi-Ban, E16 2QT, a child-friendly Chinese restaurant overlooking the Royal Docks. Don't be fooled by the harsh exterior pictured above - from the rear of the building you can watch planes taking off and landing at City Airport while you eat your dim sum!

We have a few new articles for you. Picture on Great Portland Street is a newly-opened restaurant that does modern British food and excellent puddings - your intrepid RGL blogging team thoroughly enjoyed their visit. There's also Jai Shri Krishna, a reasonably-priced vegetarian Indian restaurant on Turnpike Lane, where you write down your order yourself on a pad of paper. Finally on Lordship Lane in Tottenham there's Akwaah's Kitchen, a small, friendly restaurant serving mainly Ghanaian food.

There are several updates to existing pub articles following recent visits: up the far end of the Metropolitan line we have the Rose and Crown on Chorleywood Common and the Sportsman in Croxley Green. Slightly closer to civilisation Charing Cross (as the crow flies) is the ancient White Horse, just north of Heathrow Airport (where very few crows would actually fly, if they had any sense). Right over on the other side of London is the Victoria Tavern in Loughton, and finally the John Baird in Muswell Hill, where lime and soda costs a triumphant 65p.

As Martin Luther King Jr said, 'Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle'. As such, the Whistle and Flute Fuller's pub on Putney High Street is now a bar called The Swift, while Mum's House Burmese grocery in Wood Green has moved from its old home in the Plaza N22 centre, to a side street a few minutes' walk away.

This week's featured article is Kazan, SW1V 1DW, a Turkish restaurant near Victoria Station. It's not the cheapest, but the quality is good.

(Apologies for the recent break in service — we're back now.)

Recent additions to RGL include Maramia Cafe in Maida Hill, Uncle Lim's Kitchen in Croydon, Spiceland in Croydon, and Royal Delight on Tower Bridge Road.

We also have several closures to report, sadly: Miso on Haymarket, More on Tooley Street, New Loong Kee Cafe in Camberwell, Kastoori in Tooting, Chakalaka in Chiswick (and probably the Putney one too), Temple Bar and Beaten Path in Walworth, and Rootmaster off Brick Lane.

This week's featured article is Le Wei Xiang, SE13 5PT, a Chinese restaurant in Lewisham offering Sichuan and Dongbei (northeastern Chinese) specialties.

Its Chinese name is 樂味香 (lè wèi xiāng), and this is actually the only name on the frontage, though it also goes by the English names of "Le Wei Xiang" and the rather idiosyncratically-translated "Happy Smell".

The menu includes both the usual Anglicised Chinese restaurant items, and a separate section labelled "Genuine Chinese Tastes" with all the good stuff, including pork with mashed garlic, pig's blood soup, strange-flavour chicken, tiger salad, and so on.

Recent additions to RGL include African Kitchen on Drummond Street, Efe in Stoke Newington, Kazan near Victoria, and Harrow Inn in Cheam.

We've also updated a number of stub pages for other pubs in Cheam: the Prince Albert, the Railway, and the Claret Wine Bar.

This week's featured article is Hazev, E14 9RT, a Turkish restaurant on the Isle of Dogs near South Quay Station.

Opened fairly recently, it's a collaboration between London's two main Turkish restaurant chains, Haz and Tas. It includes a cafe/deli, a restaurant, and a bar, all located in a large open-plan room on the ground floor of a waterside residential block to the south of Canary Wharf.

It's step-free to get in, and step-free through to the ladies' toilet at least, though the cubicles are a bit of a squeeze to get into.

Recent additions to RGL include Nivla Restaurant in Camberwell and Bombay By Night in Hampton.
