Big update this week, mainly thanks to Oddbins. Anyway, here we go...

Tram Stop, Addiscombe, London CR0

Our featured article is Tram Stop, CR0 6RD, which is not in fact a tram stop but is right next to one (Addiscombe tram stop that is). It's a small coffee shop and cafe. It's child-friendly, and offers newspapers and bookswap books. The food is seasonal and good too!

Two new articles are: Magma, a small Ghanaian restaurant in Thornton Heath with a fine palaver sauce; and Gojo, doing Ethiopian food in a North Kensington basement, better than it sounds.

Four reported closures we've caught up with are: the Marylebone High St branch of Nicolas wine shop; the Barnes branch of Spirited Wines; Just Falafel in Covent Garden; and Japanese restaurant Kibou in sunny Wimbledon.

Those Oddbins renamings (generally from Spirited Wines or Nicolas) are:

* the Oddbins Beer Shop in Blackheath;
* the Notting Hill branch;
* the Wimbledon branch;
* the Kew branch;
* the Baker Street branch;
* the the Crouch End branch; and
* the East Dulwich branch.

La Cave, London SE1

Hullo RGL crew! I'm filling in for [personal profile] ewan for a bit while he is off gallivanting (i.e. probably taking pictures of a pub somewhere).

Our featured article this week is La Cave, SE1 9QQ, a French/European resturant and wine bar squirreled away down by Southwark Cathedral.

New additions to RGL include 1) Whyteleafe Tavern, a locals' pub in the sunny paradise of Whytleafe (OK I admit I had to look up where that was, it's south of Croydon so nearer the Equator - it definitely looks sunny in the photo) and 2) SM Pinoy Foods, a Filipino supermarket in Croydon that sells all sorts of mad stuff like banana blossoms and LUNGS! Brilliant!

One permanent closure is reported: Lush, Portobello Road. We also have one mysterious potential closure - Palms of Goa (Meard St branch). Rumour has it that a new outlet of Honest Burger is to replace it! Perhaps it has already? If you're in the area, why not have a look for yourself and tell us about it in the comments?

Hello! [personal profile] ewan is on holiday so I'm back doing the featured article post this week.

This week's featured article is Builders Arms, CR0 6TP, a Fuller's pub in Croydon serving pretty good pub (not gastropub!) food.

Recent additions to RGL are Kings Tun, a Wetherspoons pub in Kingston, and Gate, a bar/club/restaurant in Notting Hill. We also have an update to the Canbury Arms, a gastropub in Kingston.

A hopefully-temporary closure to report is Bermondsey Farmers' Market. In addition, Blue Elephant Thai in Fulham has moved from Fulham Broadway to Imperial Wharf, with the new location due to open on 15 January.

This week's featured article is Books For Cooks, W11 1NN, a Portobello Road bookshop and cafe devoted exclusively to books about cooking and food.

Recent additions to RGL include Deli Felice, a nice little local cafe near Rotherhithe Station; Bermondsey Brazilian Shop, a small Brazilian cafe and grocery shop on the Bermondsey/Rotherhithe borders; Canteen, a British restaurant in Canary Wharf; Preto, a Brazilian rodizio restaurant in Putney; and New Aroma, a Sichuan/Fujian restaurant on Gerrard Street in Chinatown.

Only one reported closure, but it's a big one: Pacific Plaza in Wembley, mooted as the replacement for the much-missed Oriental City, has now closed in its turn.

The Pacific Plaza website claims that the closure is temporary, but problems have been evident for some time. The supermarket failed to materialise despite being promised as "opening soon" for over a year, their PR agency reported repeated non-payment of invoices last December, and at the time of writing the Doki (crockery shop) website states that although all Pacific Plaza tenants had been paying their rent, Pacific Plaza was not paying their own rent to Wembley Retail Park.

This week's featured article is Wilmington Arms, EC1R 4RL, a pub on Rosebery Avenue just by Exmouth Market, in Clerkenwell.

It hosts comedy and live music, but also works as a normal pub, with food and real ale.

Recent additions to RGL include Hassan Bros on Tower Bridge Road, Cool Monkey in Holland Park, and the Fountain in New Malden.

The Oakdale Arms in Harringay has closed for good, and Wonderful Patisserie in Colindale may also have closed, though we haven't confirmed this.

This week's featured article is Canton Arms, SW8 1XP, a gastropub near Stockwell Station in South Lambeth.

It's a cut above your standard gastropub, with a head chef whose CV includes the Eagle in Clerkenwell (London's original gastropub) and the Anchor and Hope in Borough.

Recent additions to RGL include BonVelo in Herne Hill, Books For Cooks on Portobello Road, Beanery at Loughborough Junction, and Devonshire House in Crouch End. Also, the East London Line extension to Highbury & Islington opened today. Hurrah!

Reported closures are Cove in Covent Garden, Fat Badger on Portobello Road, Gaff on Holloway Road, Squat & Gobble in Fitzrovia, and Wabi Shebele on New Kent Road.
