Oh yes, hello! Wednesday! It's a busy week so let's crack on.

The Good Egg, Stoke Newington, London N16

Our featured article is Good Egg, N16 0AS. It's a cafe/restaurant in not-so-much-trendy-as-now-solidly-middle-class Stoke Newington. It does sort of Israeli/US Jewish-influenced food and from the name I can't guarantee there'd be any vegan options, but there probably are I bet. Enjoy the cars if you sit out the front, or enjoy the food inside.

And we have one reported closure, Jashan, a vegetarian Indian restaurant in Wembley. It may have been disappointing when Kake visited, but it had its fans, and now it's a sweet shop. If you are looking for other vegetarian Indian recommendations, though, why not check out this site I've heard about, Randomness Guide to London?

Told you it was busy! Have a great week.

Hello and welcome back again, once again belatedly (on my part)!

Arroz caldo (Filipino congee) at Sunrise, Romford, London RM1

This week's featured article is Sunrise Jacket Potato and Oriental Food, RM1 3AB, a Filipino cafe in a Romford shopping mall. It's casual and utilitarian but clean, and the food is good, though Kake advises to avoid the chicken dishes.

After the Good Beer Guide pub blowout of the last few weeks, there are only two new articles: Jishal Goan in Wembley (again pretty basic, but with more underwhelming food), and Everyman Crystal Palace, a new outpost of the upmarket cinema chain.

There are significant updates to The Case Is Altered pub in Harrow Weald which has a large beer garden, and The Crown and Sceptre in West Kensington, a small many-pillared space.

One reported permanent closure is Cafe Adagio in Addiscombe, and a possible closure is The Station House in Chingford, but no one is sure if it's temporary or permanent.

Cafe Oto, Dalston, E8

Friends, HELLO!

Our new featured article is Cafe Oto in Dalston. By day it's a cafe serving Persian-inspired food, and by night it's an avant garde music venue - very Dalston, including the inflated prices.

Updates have been made to Sarashwathy Bhavan (or possibly Sarashwathy Bavans) in Wembley. The food's all vegetarian and good portions though it seems the quality's a bit patchy for certain dishes.

In other totally vegetarian food updates, Communitea in South Norwood is a cafe and community space with a small menu but rave reviews. I'll be checking out the "good sandwich" very soon!

Welcome back, with another bumper crop of updates, although this one is not directly related to the Good Beer Guide.

Tip Top Cafe, Swanley, Kent BR8

Our featured article is Tip Top Cafe, BR8 8ES in Swanley. It's not quite a greasy spoon, instead it's a full-fledged British cafe, but not posh. Can't fault it if you ever find yourself in, or indeed find, Swanley.

Right then, plenty of new articles. We have Flavours of Paani Puri in Kingsbury, a casual Indian cafe with a good line in Pani Puri, masquerading as a shop. Then, not far away in Colindale, is Bang Bang Oriental Foodhall, the successor to the late lamented Oriental City, with loads of options, variable quality. A bit further out in Wembley is Krishna, a small and okay Indian vegetarian restaurant. And also in the north-west is Delisserie in Stanmore, a New York-style deli (which is to say, more of a cafe I guess) with a bunch of NW London outlets.

Moving out east is Hasi, an Albanian restaurant in Barking. You may not find a menu, but you'll have options, and while they may seem basic, they turn out to be worth eating. Swinging down across the river is Kitchen Counter, a vegan restaurant in Herne Hill run by "Deliciously Ella"; we only visited for breakfast, but it may be worth exploring. Over to West Norwood for Frangipani, a cafe with a cozy bright style and including vegan options.

Continuing west we get to Orange Pekoe, a tea shop in Barnes, so expect them to brew your tea properly at least, and they're happy to talk you through it. Still west, but north of the river in Ealing is Kiraku, a Japanese restaurant in the izakaya style, which gets busy and serves excellent (if pricy) food. Bringing us back towards the centre is The Bull and Last, a well-known (and also pricy) gastropub in Dartmouth Park, but the food is top notch even if it's only vanishingly pub-like. And on Highbury/Canonbury borders is Prawn on the Lawn, a silly name for a very likeable fish restaurant (and fishmonger).

I'll just list the significant updates:
* The Robin Hood, a Young's pub in Sutton;
* YBR Cake, a Thornton Heath cake shop;
* Finch's, another Young's pub, this one in Moorgate;
* The Volunteer, a pub in Bexleyheath;
* The Belvedere Hotel, in Belvedere;
* The Eel Pie pub in Twickenham;
* The Fox pub, not far away also in Twickenham; and
* The Norbiton pub in Kingston's Norbiton.

Three reported closures are: The Haandi Lounge in Edgware; L'Autre Pied in Marylebone; and Tigris in Waddon.

Archie's, Deptford, London SE8
Evening RGLers!

This week's featured article is for Archie's cafe in Deptford, presumably named because it's located in a railway arch and specialises in cheese (cheese sandwiches, macaroni cheese, cheesecake etc) which makes me wonder what their marketing team's crossed-out suggestions were. "Deptford Brie-dge"? "Caerphilly Does It"? "Better The Breville You Know"? All fine names, feel free to use any of them for your own cheese-based establishment.

New to RGL this week is Jashan, a veggie Indian restaurant near Wembley Central. From the sounds of it our reviewer's experience wasn't quite as they'd hoped for - usually Wembley-based disappointments are caused by sport rather than chilli mushrooms, so perhaps Jashan was just having an off day?

Grosvenor, Hanwell, London W7

Evening all! This week's featured article is the Grosvenor in Hanwell, a large Good Beer Guide pub with decent food (their website features a picture of some delicious-looking toad-in-the-hole) and some nice old-fashioned tiling on the exterior.

New to RGL are Karahi King and the Preston, both in Wembley. Karahi King is a laid-back Indian cafe where you can bring your own booze, while the Preston makes up for its Ember Inns blandness with free lime and soda and generally good accessibility.

The article for the Oval Tavern in Croydon has an update following a visit. Although it's not the closest pub to East Croydon station, it looks like a decent place to spend some time waiting for your train.

Pubs you should not wait for a train inside, as they have recently been on fire: the Beehive near Baker Street and the slightly less swanky New Cross Turnpike in Welling have both temporarily closed while they pat out the flames. Meanwhile the Ravensbury in Mitcham is not on fire but is also temporarily shut while its new owners figure out what to do with it, and the Fitzroy Tavern (which I feel I must point out is in Fitzrovia) is having a major refurb, and due to reopen next summer. Doctor Who fans will have to find somewhere else to meet up for now.

Finally, Sam's Brasserie and Bar in Chiswick has shut, to be replaced by a branch of Foxlow (owned by the Hawksmoor dudes). I am not keen on Foxlow as a brand, through no real fault of theirs - they replaced Homa in Stoke Newington which did extremely awesome takeaway pizza, a fact I only found out about just before they shut for good! Foxlow are clearly to blame for me not paying attention to local pizza opportunities for the previous 8 years.

Roti King, Euston, London NW1

Afternoon everyone!

This week's featured article is for Roti King At Euston Chinese, funnily enough in Euston. It's a small Malaysian restaurant that shares its basement space with Euston Chinese, so make sure you get the right menu. The food sounds excellent value for money, especially the lamb curry. Worth a visit if you're not in a hurry.

There are major updates to the articles for the JJ Moons Wetherspoons in Wembley (not to be confused with the JJ Moons in Ruislip Manor, or the one in Tooting, or the one in Hornchurch), and the White Horse, a a Fuller's pub in South Harrow.

We have a few new articles too: Bite near Northolt tube station is a Polish cafe serving inconsistent pancakes; M & D in Deptford, a Japanese restaurant with adequate sushi; and the Coach & Horses in Ickenham, site of many legendary outings by your author in the late 90s. Happily it is now around 3 changes of management on from that which BARRED ME FOR LIFE for smuggling in chip-shop-chips when the pub had stopped serving food. Readers, I ate my contraband sheltered from the rain in the nearby Pump, where my thoughtful chum Kirsty brought me out a pint. But enough nostalgia! The Coach still has the best beer garden in Ickenham, but for a quick drink you're better off in the Wetherspoons down the road (mercifully it's not called JJ Moons).

Finally, Taste Inn in Lewisham has renamed itself China China. Personally I think 'Happy Smell' is a better name, but there you go.

Tian Fu (天府布衣), Shepherd's Bush, London W12

This week's featured article is Tian Fu, W12 8AR (formerly known as Bamboo House), a Sichuan restaurant in Shepherd's Bush that serves loofah! Thankfully it is at the edible stage, before it turns into a scrubbing brush.

We have brand new pages for Caballo Bikes and Cafe, a cafe and bicycle workshop on Clapton's trendy Chatsworth Road, and the Parish, an Irish pub in Wembley that had the hurling on telly during our visit yesterday.

The pages for the Albion in West Kensington and the Lamb Brewery pub in Chiswick have both had significant updates after recent visits, as has my old local the Tichenham Inn in Ickenham, a Wetherspoons wherein I spent many a happy hour during my lunch break in Sixth Form as a responsible adult. Bonus history fact: the pub's name comes from 'Ticheha' (pronounced 'Ticky-ha'), which is how Ickenham was listed in the Domesday Book!

But it's not all rose-tinted Anglo-Saxon fun-times I'm afraid: Ciao Baby Cucina in the Shepherd's Bush Westfield, Cool Monkey in Holland Park, the branch of EAT in London City Airport and the Greyhound pub in Oval have all closed.

This week's featured article is Books For Cooks, W11 1NN, a Portobello Road bookshop and cafe devoted exclusively to books about cooking and food.

Recent additions to RGL include Deli Felice, a nice little local cafe near Rotherhithe Station; Bermondsey Brazilian Shop, a small Brazilian cafe and grocery shop on the Bermondsey/Rotherhithe borders; Canteen, a British restaurant in Canary Wharf; Preto, a Brazilian rodizio restaurant in Putney; and New Aroma, a Sichuan/Fujian restaurant on Gerrard Street in Chinatown.

Only one reported closure, but it's a big one: Pacific Plaza in Wembley, mooted as the replacement for the much-missed Oriental City, has now closed in its turn.

The Pacific Plaza website claims that the closure is temporary, but problems have been evident for some time. The supermarket failed to materialise despite being promised as "opening soon" for over a year, their PR agency reported repeated non-payment of invoices last December, and at the time of writing the Doki (crockery shop) website states that although all Pacific Plaza tenants had been paying their rent, Pacific Plaza was not paying their own rent to Wembley Retail Park.

This week's featured article is Lola Rojo, SW11 6QL, a tapas restaurant on Northcote Road in Battersea offering modern takes on traditional Spanish tapas.

(Accessibility: Two steps up to get in. Can't remember if there are more steps inside. Some of the seating is on high stools.)

Recent additions to RGL include Tea Palace in Covent Garden, Gerrard's Corner in Chinatown, Byron at the Intrepid Fox in Soho, and Villandry on Great Portland Street. We've also got a few updates on Pacific Plaza (still no supermarket, sadly).

Two reported closures: Green and Red in Shoreditch and the Market Place Cafe near Oxford Street. One reopening: Lina Stores in Soho.
