Sambal Kitchen & Diner, South Harrow, London HA2

Good evening friends and neighbours!

This week's featured article is Sambal Kitchen and Diner, a cozy Sri Lankan restaurant in South Harrow. The set meal sounds like a cracking bargain and our reviewer was particularly impressed by the dhal and sambal.

We've one new article - Megaro, a hotel restaurant and bar just across the road from King's Cross/St Pancras where it seems the breakfast brioche bun is a fork-and-knife affair.

Listen all ya'll - we've a slew of tasty news in this week's RGL update!

Our new featured article is the Rising Sun, a Sri Lankan restaurant in the Sudbury area of Harrow, not to be confused with Sudbury, Ontario. Weird lighting aside, the set lunch menu looks a great bargain and comes with friendly service to boot.

New articles added include:
- Round Table Books, a delightful children's bookshop located in Brixton Village Market selling all manner of books suitable for humans of all ages.

- Pintadera, a small Italian cafe in my personal favourite of the Norwoods (West). It's got homey decor which is work/laptop friendly; you may need to ask for spread for your toast, though.

- Still in West Norwood, there's Hobby's, a small craft and hobby shop; it's best to go knowing exactly what you want first.

- Mama Dough in Sydenham is a part of a small chain of pizza restuarants which also has a punny menu; the topping combos seem to offer the classics as well as some more nontraditional offerings and vegans & gluten-free dudes rejoice, they can cater upon request. I'm definitely hitting this one up!

Updates were made to Food House, an Indo-Chinese restuarant in Wimbledon, Fred's, a cafe in Brockley, Bridge House, a pub in Penge, O Cantinho de Portugal, a (shock!) Portuguese cafe/restaurant in Brixton, and Casa Morita, a taqueria in Brixton that also offers a selection of Mexican groceries.

Two permanet closures this week - Abuja Connection, a Nigerian restaurant in Crystal Palace, and Angel Road station which has been replaced by the brand-spankin' new Meridian Water Station just half a kilometre away.

Good morning and welcome to a bumper edition of RGLly news!

Blythe Hill Tavern, Forest Hill, London SE23

This week's featured article is Blythe Hill Tavern, a Good Beer Guide in Catford within waving distance of of Forest Hill. As would be expected from a GBG pub, there's a good selection of well-kept ale. There's also a large beer garden with a children's play area, and an Irish music session on Thursday evenings. With an atmosphere described as warm and welcoming, it sounds like a cracking good pub to quaff a beverage.

Four new articles have been added:

Oscar’s, a cafe in Ladywell serving pastries and sweets along with stew from The Soulful Food Co. in Deptford.

Rising Sun, a Sri Lankan restaurant in Sudbury, Harrow that delivers value for lunch money with its £5 set menu.

Cobb’s Corner, a cafe in Sydenham on the site of the former Blue Mountain Cafe serving British and Caribbean food.

Brown and Green, another Sydenham cafe in the local chain serving a few mains and light meals in a child-friendly setting.

Updates have been made to the White Hart pub in Harlington and the The King William pub in Sipson.

In closure news, Croydon's Brasserie Vacherin is closed for a few weeks for refurbishment, though we're unsure when or if it will reopen. We Brought Beer, a specialist beer shop in Clapham, has permanently closed, though the Balham and Tooting branches remain open for business.

Hello and welcome back from a long weekend.

Shree Krishna Vada Pav, Harrow, London HA1

This week's featured article is Shree Krishna Vada Pav, HA1 2TY, an Indian vegetarian cafe in a casual location in Harrow. It moved recently from another location nearby, and it has a decent vada pav (as you'd hope for given the name of the place). All pretty good value it seems.

We have not two, not three but FOUR new articles! There's The Pembroke, a pub in Coulsdon. Alright beer; seems child friendly. And then there's Archie's, a cafe/bar in Deptford -- a railway arch to be precise, HENCE THE NAME. Pretty good sandwiches and friendly service! Also, Halwa Poori House in Thornton Heath does Pakistani food with sparkly floor tiles and mild lukewarm curry. Finally, Canary Cafe, a greasy spoon in South Croydon. There's a solid selection of the usual staples.

Welcome back to another week of RGL updates!

This week's featured article is Napura, SE15 3QF, a Portuguese restaurant in officially the best area of London, Nunhead. This is official because I say it is, so I'll brook no disputes. I wager it's changed since I lived there, though this was a Portuguese restaurant back then. Go get yrself a bacalhau. (The historical verdict, which may not have changed much, is that there's less for those non-meat-eaters such as myself.)

But that's fine because our updated article is Shree Krishna Vada Pav, a Mumbai-centric cafe which is totally vegetarian, though you have to travel a bit further from Nunhead, as it's in Harrow. It will, however, satisfy all your carbs-in-carbs needs.

Finally, just reopened is iconic pub The Half Moon in Herne Hill, which has been closed for nigh on four years now, so its reopening (as a Fuller's pub) is welcome.

Welcome to a new week on RGL!

This week's featured article is Bus, CR0 2BQ. It is a greasy spoon cafe in a bus, up Selhurst way. It's child friendly. Also it's on a bus.

Four new articles are as follows: The Long Room in Tooting, a pub with relatively cheap food; Saravanaa Bhavan in Harrow, a branch of a vegetarian Indian chain, thankfully not too anglicised; Jen Cafe in Chinatown, specialising in hand-made dumplings, a quick turnaround operation with better meat than veg options; and Nusa Kitchen near Liverpool Street station, a fine soup-focused takeaway corridor.

Finally, one reported closure is Oui Monsieur in Stoke Newington, a short-lived French bar/restaurant.

Hello and welcome back!

Here is Rasa, W1S 1AD. It is our featured article for this week. You may be familiar with it as part of a chain of South Indian vegetarian restaurants (well, most of them are vegetarian). This one is a fine representative of the others, so if you've been to one, why not try the Mayfair branch?

Three new entries for you.

Our SE London representative visits Bob Wines, unrelated to RGL sysadmin and regular contributor of that name. Look for local beers and English wines, if those take your fancy. Plus the usual beers and wines of the world.

There's an article for Mr Chilly in Harrow. This one's North Indian unlike our featured article. The key word in the review is "flavour" so expect flavour in your food. I like flavour in my food, that's for sure. Maybe visit on a cold day, so that the name is appropriate. Shouldn't be hard, eh.

Finally, our SW correspondent posts about Punjab House (another North Indian place) in Balham, which is near Tooting, quite easy to get to from there really. Indian "all day breakfast" sounds intriguing.

Afternoon everyone!

This week's featured article is for Roti King At Euston Chinese, funnily enough in Euston. It's a small Malaysian restaurant that shares its basement space with Euston Chinese, so make sure you get the right menu. The food sounds excellent value for money, especially the lamb curry. Worth a visit if you're not in a hurry.

There are major updates to the articles for the JJ Moons Wetherspoons in Wembley (not to be confused with the JJ Moons in Ruislip Manor, or the one in Tooting, or the one in Hornchurch), and the White Horse, a a Fuller's pub in South Harrow.

We have a few new articles too: Bite near Northolt tube station is a Polish cafe serving inconsistent pancakes; M & D in Deptford, a Japanese restaurant with adequate sushi; and the Coach & Horses in Ickenham, site of many legendary outings by your author in the late 90s. Happily it is now around 3 changes of management on from that which BARRED ME FOR LIFE for smuggling in chip-shop-chips when the pub had stopped serving food. Readers, I ate my contraband sheltered from the rain in the nearby Pump, where my thoughtful chum Kirsty brought me out a pint. But enough nostalgia! The Coach still has the best beer garden in Ickenham, but for a quick drink you're better off in the Wetherspoons down the road (mercifully it's not called JJ Moons).

Finally, Taste Inn in Lewisham has renamed itself China China. Personally I think 'Happy Smell' is a better name, but there you go.

This week's featured article is The Whistle and Flute, SW15 1SQ, a Fuller's pub somewhere in between scruffy and gastro. It has the usual range of Fuller's beers and ales, so it'll do you fine if you're in Putney for a drink.

Lots of new articles this week, as certain maintainers of our community have been getting out and about in London. We have Amasi, a Middle Eastern cafe on an industrial estate in Perivale, so er yes, if you find yourself on an industrial estate in furthest West London, now you know where to go. We also have Shree Krishna Vada Pav, an Indian cafe in Harrow.

There's new entries for drinking establishments too: Ward's Freehouse, a pub in Harrow lacking any real ale; The Hussar at the edge of Hounslow, ditto; The Earl Haig, also in Hounslow, also no real ale; and The Beagle, a cocktail bar/restaurant in trendy East London's Haggerston/Shoreditch boundaries.

There are significant updates for The Old White Bear in Hampstead, and Au Lac, a Vietnamese restaurant in Highbury.

Two reported closures are The White Swan, one of Golders Green's few remaining pubs, and, sadly, an excellent East Dulwich wine shop/bar, Green and Blue.

Hullo RGL crew!

It's time for another featured article, namely the Charles Dickens, SE1 0LH, a Good Beer Guide pub in Borough. Highlights include scampi and lovely scrumptious pints of mild!

We also have a trinity of new articles: Tommi's Burger Joint, W1U, a trendy burger place in Marylebone that doesn't appear to have a Ridiculous Queuing Policy^TM; Honest, W1F, another burger hangout which you may recall replaced the Soho branch of Palms of Goa. Finally there's the Cock Tavern, E8, a new brewpub bang in the middle of Mare St, which -- brace yourselves -- does not currently have burgers on the menu. Or indeed, anything else! (Early days, of course.)

Wailing/gnashing of teeth news: RGL-haunt Le Cassoulet, CR2 has abruptly shut! Sniff! Also for the chop: Geeta, NW6, Koreana, HA3, the Case Is Altered, HA3, Cafe Rajistan, E14 and Beaufoy Bar, SW11. Jolly locals' pub the Whitesmiths Arms, SE1 in Borough is also temporarily shut for a refurb (they'd better keep the awesome jukebox).

Zombie of the Week Award goes to the Bloated Mallard, TW11 which has reopened.
