Wotcher RGL massive!

Cafe Provencal, Herne Hill, London SE24

This week's featured article is Cafe Provencal, a small family and dog friendly restaurant in Herne Hill serving up cocktails and Canopy beer. I can confirm their brunch selection is most excellent but do book in advance.

Fans of Ethiopian food will be pleased to note our two new articles are St Gabriel Cafe near Elephant & Castle, serving up appropriately sour injera, and Beza Ethiopian Food also near Elephant & Castle, though you might want to dine in to avoid hefty delivery charges.

We have three updates to existing articles this week - Star Tavern, a Fullers pub in Belgravia with a lot of love from RGLers, Zeret Kitchen in Camberwell continues our love for south London Ethiopian scran, and Roti Masters in Croydon continues to impress with substantial meals bursting with texture and flavour.

The Sidcup pub formerly known as The Portrait is now Hill Top Tap, and the Sekforde Arms, a Young's pub in Clerkenwell, has reopened as The Sekforde pub and restaurant.

If you're looking for knitting supplies, I Knit London has moved from its previous Lower Marsh location but fear not, it's only a short walk away to its new location near Lambeth North station.

Finally, we have four reported permanent closures - Duke of Hamilton is now occupied by the Hampstead Lounge & Jazz Club, Fuzedown pub in Streatham, Tas Turkish restaurant in Farringdon,and L'Anima Italian restaurant near Liverpool Street station.

St Gabriel Ethiopian Delicatessen, Finsbury Park, London N4

Evening all, I hope those of you who attended Croydon Fun Weekend enjoyed yourselves!

Our featured article this week is for Finsbury Park's St Gabriel Ethiopian Delicatessen, a small cafe serving some flavourful Ethiopian stews and 'nicely sour' injera.

There are two new articles: Dosa N Chutny, a bright orange South Indian restaurant in Croydon which has mislaid the letter 'e', and Dans Le Noir in Clerkenwell, an experimental restaurant that has mislaid the light switches. You eat your dinner in pitch blackness! It sounds intriguing - click through for our reviewer's experience.

Finally, there's an update for the Maramia Cafe in Maida Hill following a visit. Was the arayes as good as the mezze was on our 2011 visit? Indeed, could *anything* be as good as that mezze?

at Kiraku, Ealing, London W5

Evening readers!

This week's featured article is for Kiraku, a Japanese restaurant-pub combo, near Ealing Common tube station, where the quality of the cooking justifies the above-average price tag.

We have new articles for three veggie and vegan-friendly cafes: the Rail House Cafe in Victoria has some interesting breakfast options, the St Gabriel Ethiopian Delicatessen in Finsbury Park has flavoursome food in big portions, and Cafe Provencal in Herne Hill offers breakfasts and burgers that make up for their lack of structural stability with high levels of tastiness. But wait - there's more new cafe pages! Le Delice in Ladywell sounds like a pleasant, relaxing place to pass the morning, while Morden-based Romanian cafe Time In Ro feels like it should be a pun, but on what, I'm not sure (frankly there's Morden enough puns available in the area already).

Rounding off the week, there's an update to the Ladywell Tavern page following a recent visit, while the Gowlett pub in Peckham ('East Dulwich borders') has closed down.

Andu Cafe, Dalston, London E8

Hullo all! Our last round-up of the year kicks off with our featured article, Andu Cafe in Dalston. The menu is both short and vegan! Having a dollop of everything on a massive expanse of injera sounds like an excellent plan. The archives tell me I've already linked to the Captain Sensible song about wot, so here's Wiley instead.

We have a new page for Suda, a busy and modern Thai restaurant in Covent Garden, hidden away in the courtyard off Upper St Martin's Lane, and there's an update for Cristina's steak house in Barking, following a recent visit. The Glamorgan gastropub in Croydon has closed, while Cafe Bohemia off Mare Street in Hackney is due to close in January.

And that's it for 2016 - RGL wishes all our readers and contributors a very Happy New Year!

Welcome back. I was off ill yesterday so I present this week's update a bit late, sorry.

Rui shatkora and rice at Ponchokhana, Whitechapel, London E1

The featured article is Ponchokhana, E1 1DB. Not in fact some kind of Mexican-equestrian hybrid, this is instead a Bangladeshi cafe, which has good rice and flavourful fish in the fish curry, though we daresay their other food is also worth trying. Good prices too.

Three new articles! Andu Cafe in Dalston does Ethiopian vegan food, with a really sour injera. Brazil Express is a Brazilian cafe in Stratford, which also offers some grocery items for pao de queijo fans, lovers of preserved hearts of palm, and other exotic things. Finally, there's Eddie's Cafe in Addiscombe, a greasy spoon which does greasy fried things as you'd expect.

There's an update to The Fox, friendly craft beer hub in Dalston.

One reported (but thankfully temporary) closure is The Ladywell Tavern, a tavern in Ladywell. It's being refurbished, we hear.

Gojo, Ladbroke Grove, London W10

Afternoon everyone!

This week's featured article is for Gojo, an Ethiopian bar and restaurant near Ladbroke Grove. If you wend your way down the rather precarious staircase, you'll be rewarded with all manner of lovely-sounding things to go with your injera, including gomen wot, misir wot and shiro wot. Captain Sensible would be delighted*!

Oui Madame in Stoke Newington is now Oui Monsieur! Honorifics aside, no other changes are apparent. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose! Finally, Portal in Clerkenwell closed earlier this year.

The RGL blog will return after the May Bank Holiday - see you then.

Big update this week, mainly thanks to Oddbins. Anyway, here we go...

Tram Stop, Addiscombe, London CR0

Our featured article is Tram Stop, CR0 6RD, which is not in fact a tram stop but is right next to one (Addiscombe tram stop that is). It's a small coffee shop and cafe. It's child-friendly, and offers newspapers and bookswap books. The food is seasonal and good too!

Two new articles are: Magma, a small Ghanaian restaurant in Thornton Heath with a fine palaver sauce; and Gojo, doing Ethiopian food in a North Kensington basement, better than it sounds.

Four reported closures we've caught up with are: the Marylebone High St branch of Nicolas wine shop; the Barnes branch of Spirited Wines; Just Falafel in Covent Garden; and Japanese restaurant Kibou in sunny Wimbledon.

Those Oddbins renamings (generally from Spirited Wines or Nicolas) are:

* the Oddbins Beer Shop in Blackheath;
* the Notting Hill branch;
* the Wimbledon branch;
* the Kew branch;
* the Baker Street branch;
* the the Crouch End branch; and
* the East Dulwich branch.

Hello! And sorry for the slight delay posting this update; all my fault.

Addis, King's Cross, London N1

This week's featured article is Addis, N1 9DT. It's an Ethiopian restaurant at the bottom of Caledonian Road, with plenty of options for veggies and vegans. Looks like everything was excellent, though you might want to think carefully about ordering falafel.

There are three new entries: a Turkish bakery and cafe called Tuana near Archway; Mi Rancho, a Colombian eatery in Nag's Head Market, Holloway, offering tasty street food in an unpretentious setting; and Black Cat Cafe, a vegan cooperative cafe in Lower Clapton.

Reported permanent closures are La Fermata on Tower Bridge Road, and Verru in Marylebone.

Finally, happier news, the old Duke of Edinburgh pub in Wanstead has been rebranded as The Duke and reopened. Looks promising.

Railway, West Hampstead, NW6

This week, your featured article is The Railway, NW6 2LU, a fairly decent pub near West Hampstead station.

However, the big news is the addition of the 'trains to' categories, and on the individual stations, to help you find which stations have frequent services to a particular hub. (Here's the original discussion about it.) So there are now:
* Trains to Clapham Junction;
* Trains to East Croydon;
* Trains to King's Cross or St. Pancras;
* Trains to Liverpool Street;
* Trains to London Bridge;
* Trains to Marylebone;
* Trains to Moorgate;
* Trains to Paddington;
* Trains to Victoria; and
* Trains to Waterloo.

We also have three new station pages, as they are now part of the zone system: Cheshunt, Theobald's Grove and Waltham Cross.

Three other new entries are The Maltsters and The Vine, both McMullen's pubs in Cheshunt; and Addis, a decent Ethiopian with good vegetarian selection, near King's Cross.

There are significant updates to Curry Special, a Punjabi restaurant in Newbury Park, and The Eva Hart, a Wetherspoon's in Chadwell Heath.

Great Northern Railway Tavern, Hornsey, N8

This week's featured article is the refurbished and reopened Great Northern Railway Tavern, N8 7QB on Hornsey High Street.

New articles are: Deli Spice, an Indian takeaway in Lower Clapton; Cakey Muto, a cake shop and licensed cafe on the same street; The Manor Arms, a gastropub in Streatham; and Red Sea, a restaurant in Shepherd's Bush offering food from countries located around that stretch of water.

There's an update to The Old Red Lion, now an Antic pub near Kennington station.

Finally The Rye in Peckham has reopened after a significant refurbishment.
