Indian Veg Bhelpoori House

Morning readers!

This week's featured article is for the Indian Veg Bhelpoori House, an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet at the end of Chapel Market in Islington. It's completely vegetarian and mostly vegan, and extremely good value at £6. It's a good option if dining alone, with plenty of reading material on the walls about the excellent qualities of veggie food, and a wallchart of prime ministers who all have something in common...

There's a new article for the branch of The Real Greek in Stratford's Westfield shopping centre, where the bean stew is hearty, the cheese is salty and the background music is clichéd to the point of hilarity.

Finally, while it never achieved the status of having its own RGL article, I can confirm that the Birdcage pub in Stoke Newington has closed. Denizens of N16 will now have to eat odd pizzas in the dark elsewhere.

Bumblebee Natural Foods, Holloway, London N7

Hello again. This week's featured article is Bumblebee Natural Foods, N7 0BT on the Kentish Town borders, a health food shop and grocery, with bulk foods, takeaway food, fruit and veg, baked goods, cheese and other such things.

The one new article is for a branch of Mexican food chain Wahaca at Westfield Stratford City's glamorous E20. If you've been to any of them, you'll be familiar with the concept. Our correspondent particularly recommends the plantain tacos.

Reported closures are for The Fat of the Land, an uneasy tapas bar/pub hybrid in Marylebone, and Parade Gastrobar in South Woodford, which sounds like some kind of painful dietary device. Also closed is Little Squiggles Cafe in sunny Sutton.

Afternoon all! I hope you had a good long weekend.

Zolio

This week's featured article is for Zoilo, a smashing Argentinian restaurant in Marylebone near the Wallace Collection. The wine list is interesting and the empanadas are excellent - if you're going for lunch, make sure you don't have to go back to work afterwards.

Your contributors have been busy this week: we've got new articles for Franco Manca, a branch of the sourdough pizza chain in Westfield Stratford City; the new-ish Baker Street branch of the Natural Kitchen, which has plenty of unhealthy options to choose from; Bumblebee Natural Foods (an independent grocers and bakery) and Kami (a Japanese restaurant), both in Kentish Town; and - long overdue for a write-up, considering how often I go there - the 24-hour Bagel House in Stoke Newington. I can recommend the £1 pizza slice as a satisfying late night snack.

Kika in Canonbury has closed and is now a cafe called The Fig Tree. Finally, although we don't have an article for it yet, it may be useful to know that the Phoenix bar in Cavendish Square (near Oxford Circus) is temporarily closed for refurbishment, reopening in early September 2014.

Tap East, Stratford, E20

This week's featured article is Tap East, E20 1EE, a brewpub in the Stratford Westfield shopping centre.

Three additions are: Joshua's Tea Room, a cafe in the Allders department store, Croydon; Manus Palm Grove, a South Indian restaurant in Stratford; and Hua Run, a Chinese supermarket also in Stratford.

Reported closures are: S&M Cafe, sausage and mash purveyors in Spitalfields and last of that chain; Black Sheep pub on Camberwell/Kennington borders (now called The Kennington); and Alfie's Kitchen and Bar in Bermondsey (now called Gregg's Table).

Sorry for the gap in service, as [personal profile] kake has been rather busy. However, I'm helping out and will run through the weekly updates.

Railway Bell, Hampton, London TW12

The featured article this week is The Railway Bell, TW12 2AP, a Good Beer Guide pub in Hampton.

Since the last update the following pages have been added: The Railway Tavern Ale House, a reopened pub just near Dalston Kingsland with six ales and Thai food; The Breadroom, a cafe in Brixton Market; The White Swan, a Wetherspoon's at Highbury Corner; The Kentish Canteen, a cafe in Kentish Town; Ye Olde Swan, a Greene King pub, and The Red Lion, a slightly better pub, both in Thames Ditton (technically in Surrey); Pizza Napolitana, a takeaway in Croydon; Restaurante Santafereno, a Colombian restaurant in Brixton Village; Moyo-Ma, a Nigerian restaurant in Walworth; Tap East, a microbrewery and bar in Westfield Stratford City (E20); Cook Il Kwan, a Korean restaurant in New Malden; and The Anthologist, a bar in the City. Phew!

Reported closures are: Positively 4th Street, a New York-style bar near Euston; The Queen Dowager, a Young's pub in Teddington; Somers Town Coffee House, a gastropub between the British Library and Euston; and Avella's Cafe, a sandwich shop just off the top of Regent Street.

Future updates should be a little shorter, as we'll try to keep them regular.

This week's featured article is Royal Standard, CR0 1SS, a lovely little Fuller's pub in Croydon.

It has board games, a dart board, chairs with misericords, excellent pies, and a beer garden; and it's been one of my favourite pubs for quite some time.

The big news on RGL this week is the addition of the Good Beer Guide 2012 category, plus all the pubs in it that we didn't already have listed. 36 new pubs were added to RGL, 18 of them with proper writeups (having been visited by me and/or [personal profile] ewan in the two weeks between my advance copy of the GBG arriving and the official publication date). The other 18 are currently "stub" entries which mainly contain addresses, opening hours, and links to other people's reviews; we'll be filling these in as soon as possible.

Other recent additions to RGL include Okan, a Japanese restaurant in Brixton; Casa Morita, a Mexican taqueria in Brixton; and the Cow, a Geronimo pub in the exciting new postal district E20.

Reported closures are Bombay By Night in Hampton, Donzoko in Soho, and Taste Of India in Covent Garden.
