Ram's, Kenton, London HA3

Evening all!

This week's featured article is for Ram's in Kenton, a vegetarian Indian restaurant and sweet shop with a decent all-you-can-eat buffet. Unlimited bread! There are also two new pages on RGL: Cactus Grill in Wallington serves Mexican/American food with a lunchtime meal deal, and Hap Lee in Norbury does the usual Anglo-Chinese cuisine (maybe skip the aubergine).

There's an update for the Orange Room in Mile End, just around the corner from a house where approximately half the population of Livejournal has lived at one point or another, including this author. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a local Lebanese mezze place at the time - but now there is!

Several pub closures to report: the Hatchet near Mansion House, the Chequers in Hendon, and the Greenwich Pensioner in... wait for it... Poplar! (Come on, why would you think a Greenwich Pensioner might be in Greenwich?) The Victoria Stakes in Muswell Hill is also temporarily shut following a fire, but the Good Samaritan in Whitechapel has reopened: very handy for a pre- or post-Tayyabs pint.

Genesis cinema
(Image © diamond geezer, used under Creative Commons)

Morning all! A brief update this week to let you know about this week's featured article for the Genesis Cinema in Stepney, which was certainly one of the better things I recall about living in Mile End several years ago, and has been spruced up since then. You can find all RGL's cinema entries (for both independently-run and chain cinemas) on the Cinemas Category page.

There's also a new article for Finger Licking, a small Ghanaian restaurant by West Croydon station that also does takeaway. The honeycomb tripe comes recommended by our Tripe Correspondent, so perhaps I'll make the trip down there for the Ghanaian leg of the 2014 Dining World Cup? (If anyone has any restaurant suggestions for Bosnia-Herzegovina I'd be very grateful...)

Eastbrook, Dagenham, RM10

Afternoon RGL crew!

This week's featured article is for the Eastbrook in Dagenham, a big old Good Beer Guide pub that has one of those ever-harder-to-find elements: a pub carpet! The whole building is rather lovely, as you can see from the photo above.

Also out Eastwards we have a new article for the Widow's Son in Bow, which seems like it's in need of a bit of TLC. There is no pub carpet here, unfortunately.

My co-blogger Ewan has been hard at work revamping our cinema articles! Shortwave in Bermondsey, the Mile End Genesis, and the Cineworlds in Shaftesbury Avenue, West India Quay and the Haymarket all have updates. The Genesis in particular has gone through a big revamp since I last went there in 2006, to see the timeless Samuel L. Jackson classic Snakes On A Plane. What a film! I can't believe Ewan hasn't reviewed it on his film blog?

Finally for this week, Tai Pan in Limehouse has closed, as has Mirch Masala on Commerical Road.

hiba express

This week's featured article is Hiba Express, WC1V 6JQ. It's a Lebanese restaurant near Holborn station, does good takeaway food. bob likes it, in any case. Thanks to Bec for the photo.

We have two new articles: Pavilion Cafe in Victoria Park E9, an upmarket greasy spoon; and Pieds Nus in Marylebone, a so-called 'pop-up' taking the place of the old Roganic (so it could be there for several years), featuring fine dining with a 'barely-cooked' (low temperature/slow-cooked) gimmicky twist (hence the 'naked' in the name) from those Pied à Terre people. However, yr correspondents can confirm it was super extra tasty, especially the breads and the artichokes and the meats and the fish, but stay away from the duck egg, potato and cheese thing.

Finally, Panda Panda in Deptford is more-or-less closed, i.e. it's not a Vietnamese place anymore, just a standard sandwich shop.
