I was in Hayes yesterday, surveying pubs for the upcoming 2013 Good Beer Guide update on RGL. But I was not in Hayes (London Borough of Hillingdon); I was in Hayes (London Borough of Bromley). London has too many Hayeses!

At the moment, RGL has Locale: Hayes for the one in Hillingdon, but no locale for the one in Bromley. I can't remember why we decided to let the Hillingdon one have the name. Confusingly, we also seem to have Locale: Hayes Town, which appears to be a subset of our existing Hayes locale.

What should we do about this? Have two locales called e.g. "Hayes, Bromley" and "Hayes, Hillingdon"? What about "Hayes Town" — is that really a place?

You could say 'Hayes: The Nicer One' for the Bromley version...

Slightly more diplomatic: Hayes (South-East London), Hayes (West London) would be distinct enough for me.

I'd say Hayes Town is distinct enough from Hayes to have its own category if Northwood and Northwood Hills do (which is currently the case).

I think yes, have the two Hayeses that you suggest, so the searching person is forced to choose one or t'other.

Either that, or a pub in either Hayes might be legitimately labelled with Hayes. I only knew about the w London one and if I was reviewing something there Id have just picked locality Hayes.... But I think forcing a choice of two is better.

Your option for labelling seems sensible, with the borough. The trains call the former "Hayes (Kent)" I believe, though obviously as WE ALL KNOW, it's not Kent.

Perhaps yes, using the locale areas than the boroughs might be more sensible?
