Shall we add a Laptop Friendly category?

I’m thinking of adding a Laptop Friendly category to RGL, possibly with the following criteria:

• Has WiFi.
• Has at least one plug socket that they don’t mind customers using.
• Has at least one table at which it is comfortable to use a laptop.
• Doesn’t have any explicit policy forbidding or restricting laptop use.
• At least one RGL contributor has happily sat in using a laptop for at least half an hour.

but am open to amendments or other suggestions. As with other similar categories such as Step-Free Access and Child Friendly, there should also be a free-form paragraph at the end of the writeup giving details of why this place fits the category.

I like this idea. I have just a little specification suggestion. I think it'd be useful to also know if the wifi is open or if you need a password to use it.

Good idea, thanks — that can go in the free-form paragraph along with the other info. Knowing how to get the password is useful info too (e.g. the other day I was in a cafe where this was a bit of a mystery but the RGL writeup said it was on the sugar containers so I turned mine round and there it was!)

I am also very interested in whether places have background music.

This is usually mentioned in the writeup itself. A while back we discussed the idea of having a category for Music-Free, but music-free status can vary so much (depending on time of day, day of week, staff member on duty) that a category wouldn’t be able to properly capture it.
