Ram's, Kenton, London HA3

Evening all!

This week's featured article is for Ram's in Kenton, a vegetarian Indian restaurant and sweet shop with a decent all-you-can-eat buffet. Unlimited bread! There are also two new pages on RGL: Cactus Grill in Wallington serves Mexican/American food with a lunchtime meal deal, and Hap Lee in Norbury does the usual Anglo-Chinese cuisine (maybe skip the aubergine).

There's an update for the Orange Room in Mile End, just around the corner from a house where approximately half the population of Livejournal has lived at one point or another, including this author. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a local Lebanese mezze place at the time - but now there is!

Several pub closures to report: the Hatchet near Mansion House, the Chequers in Hendon, and the Greenwich Pensioner in... wait for it... Poplar! (Come on, why would you think a Greenwich Pensioner might be in Greenwich?) The Victoria Stakes in Muswell Hill is also temporarily shut following a fire, but the Good Samaritan in Whitechapel has reopened: very handy for a pre- or post-Tayyabs pint.

Sun Luen Snack Bar, Little Newport Street, London WC2

Hullo RGLers!

This week's featured article is for Sun Luen Snack Bar in Chinatown, which sounds like a nice quiet place for a breather (and an egg tart) in the centre of town.

A bunch of new articles have appeared! There's a branch of the Franco Manca pizza chain in Wimbledon; long-established dining spot Joanna's in Crystal Palace; the organisationally-challenged Tartine Artisan cafe, and Lebanese restaurant Meza, both in Tooting Broadway. The Bond Street branch of Rasa has had an update following a visit, by me! Spoiler: it's still great, and you should all go.

Lastly, after what seems like aeons, the Waterloo Tap is finally open, and ready to sell you some craft beer.

Station Hotel, Hither Green, London SE13

Hello friends!

We have a double edition for the holiday period (Happy Winterval! Merry Festivus!). The featured article for this special festive edition is The Station Hotel, SE13 5NB. It's bright airy pub near Hither Green station with plenty of ales, so, er, get thee thither.

There are FOUR new articles...

Kat went to Kauri Tree Cafe in Stoke Newington, a cash-based artisanal outpost.

I visited the Beer Shop, which despite the name is more of a micropub in a converted shop overlooking Nunhead Green (they have plenty of bottles too, which I'm presuming you can takeaway).

Kake went to Amber Tree Cafe in Deptford, a narrow little cafe with friendly staff in a former pub building. She also visited Gifto's Lahore Karahi in Southall, a Punjabi restaurant with communal tables and decent food.

Finally, there's been an update to the Dar Marrakech write-up, a Moroccan/Lebanese restaurant in Stratford.

Hello friends. This week your correspondent is sitting at Heathrow waiting for a flight out of this place, but for those of you staying behind you could do a lot worse than our featured article this week...

Dar Marrakech, Stratford, London E15

It's Dar Marrakech, E15 4QZ, a Moroccan/Lebanese restaurant in sunny Stratford. Load up on their Lebanese mezza, where they're happy for you to chop and change to your greedy heart's desires.

We have two new pages. One is for Granger and Co. in Clerkenwell. It does incoherent fusion food in a nice, sort-of-gastropubby way. Most importantly, the food is tasty.

We also have FARM:shop (sic) in Dalston. It's a cafe though, not a shop. Also, it's a cafe, not a farm (although it does have a garden, some chicken coops and a 'mushroom farm') so I guess we can allow that bit. No food sampled on this visit, but will be interesting to try their local Dalston produce.

There's one updated article, on Mapps Cafe, a basic caff near Hackney Wick. Decent grub, good for local workers needing to load up before a heavy day.

Mother Kelly's, Bethnal Green, E2

Hello all! A tripe-free update this week.

This week's featured article is Mother Kelly's, a rather pleasant bar under a railway arch in Bethnal Green. It has a large number of interesting beers, both on keg taps and in bottles, and it's run by Steve Mason of Mason & Taylor fame, so expect plenty of hops. They also have jugs of tap water on the tables, a trend which I hope other drinking establishments pick up on.

We have two new restaurant articles, with cuisine from opposite ends of the Mediterranean: Sheesh Mangal in Worcester Park serves decent Turkish food ([personal profile] bob approves of the hummous), while Dar Marrakech is a toddler-friendly Moroccan restaurant in Stratford, which provides belly dancing on request! Dar Marrakech also does Lebanese food, which I judge makes its geographical culinary midpoint somewhere near Malta.

Finally, Shahee Bhelpoori in Norbury has closed.

hiba express

This week's featured article is Hiba Express, WC1V 6JQ. It's a Lebanese restaurant near Holborn station, does good takeaway food. bob likes it, in any case. Thanks to Bec for the photo.

We have two new articles: Pavilion Cafe in Victoria Park E9, an upmarket greasy spoon; and Pieds Nus in Marylebone, a so-called 'pop-up' taking the place of the old Roganic (so it could be there for several years), featuring fine dining with a 'barely-cooked' (low temperature/slow-cooked) gimmicky twist (hence the 'naked' in the name) from those Pied à Terre people. However, yr correspondents can confirm it was super extra tasty, especially the breads and the artichokes and the meats and the fish, but stay away from the duck egg, potato and cheese thing.

Finally, Panda Panda in Deptford is more-or-less closed, i.e. it's not a Vietnamese place anymore, just a standard sandwich shop.
